There are a few types of ignition keys. The first type of ignition key is the plain car key, which is the most common. The plain ignition key includes many different car models made before the fob car keys became popular. A plain car key can open the doors, trunk, and glove compartment, as well as turn on the ignition system.
Another type of ignition key is a valet key. A valet key is a type of ignition key that can lock and unlock the car's doors and turn on the ignition but cannot open the glove compartment and trunks. Typically, a valet key is given when valet parking your car so the attendant will not have access to your personal belongings in your glove compartment or trunk. A Denver locksmith can produce a valet key by using different tumbler positions and cuts than the ignition key.
Newer modern cars use a transponder key. Sometimes they will use a keyless entry and ignition system. This type of ignition key makes use of infrared so that once the driver inserts the key fob into the keyhole; the ignition button can be pushed to start the car. This eliminates the metal that protrudes and only makes use of the fob. The infrared beam from the key fob communicates with the computer system of the modern car to ignite the car's engine.
Transponder systems and keyless ignition systems can lessen the chances of car theft. Without the exact match of the key ID code, the car will not turn on. Unlike the traditional plain car keys, no one can make an illegal copy of a transponder car key. Transponder car keys can only be duplicated by your local Denver locksmith. If a car thief tries to start the car with the car's wires in a transponder system, the thief will only break the entire system, making it impossible to turn on the ignition.
